About Me

Hello! I'm Katherine (Katie)

This is a little about my professional background and experiences, to allow you to gain an understanding of the multiple disciplines I have worked with and the skill set I have obtained over the years.

I have many areas of work experience from Customer services, IT procurement, Statistical analysis, Pensions Administration, Health care support and Director Personal Assistance. I have had redundancies and life changes such as becoming a mother, which has given me the opportunity to experience many roles and enhance my skill-sets in life.

The information provided gives an overview of only the most recent. Gaps within roles are generally due to studying or life commitments.

About Me

I am a mum of 2 and have a passion to promote child led learning and watch children flourish into respectful and confident young adults.  I am passionate about my values and beliefs in education and believe that every child should be given the opportunity to explore all learning opportunities and to be free to learn at a comfortable pace that isnt forced or assesed through tests. Allowing children to engage in learning that compliments their interests will enable them to develop holistically and motive them to continue self development throughout life.

Digital Competence

All pupils will be given the opportunity to work digitally across all areas of learning using laptops/ IPads. However, we  do not focus on producing work through the use of Digital technology and we encourage handwriting, reading books and creativity through art. Digital technology will be used for modern approaches to research and building on existing skills and knowledge.

Year 1 to Year 6. All children will be given the opportunity to express understanding of biology, chemistry and Physics. We can not offer practical work in this subject.

Welsh

**Unfortunately we do not offer our services in Welsh Language at this time.  We do however cater for children who attend welsh school for extra support in English language.

Learning with CPT

I offer 1-1 learning at our location in Pontprennau Cardiff. Unfortunately due to the number of children who attend on a daily basis we can no longer offer tuition at the childrens home due to travel and regular attendees who book in advance.

We do however offer weekend tuition at the home of the children and at a separate rate. Please contact us in regards to this.

As part of the Welsh curriculum we expect children and young people to become accomplished in:

• developing numerical reasoning

• using number skills

• using measuring skills

• using data skills.

• oracy across all areas of learning

• reading across all areas of learning

• writing across all areas of learning.

Digital Skills

Your child will be encouraged to use technology throughout their learning. We will be proving them with a laptop/ipad during their time at CPT to enhance their digital competence.

Creativity -

Your child is encouraged to be creative during their time at CPT and there will be occasions where your child will be given the opportunity to use arts and crafts materials to produce work to take home.

Homework

Children will be provided with homework on a weekly basis.

Once a fortnight, children will be provided with a book to read at home with parents/for parents read to them. This will encourage reading for fun and will enhance your child's ability to successfully accomplish all areas of learning.

A full list of learning outcomes can be provided upon request.

Children will have an informal assessment during their first session for us to identify areas of learning that require attention. This will not be in a form of test and we want to encourage children to be themselves. We do not advocate assessments as we feel this can place unnecessary pressures upon them. We want your child to feel at home and experience a fun learning environment

What Happy

Students &

Parents Say

Katie presented an excellent and informative lesson to 19 Year 5/6 pupil last term in Ysgol Gymraeg Pen-y-Groes. The topic of her lesson was "The Human Body" and specifically the heart and the effect of smoking on the body.
Her presentation skills were of an extremely high standard and she questioned the children appropriately in order to extend their knowledge and understanding of the subject.
Katie's powerpoint presentation included relevant and challenging facts and information and she also used educational youtube clips to enhance the pupil's knowledge.
Her teaching and learning strategies included group work, questioning skills and she also encouraged the children to think independently about the subject.
I was very impressed with her lesson and wish her all the best in the future.
